About the bring your own device program
The bring your own device (BYOD) program allows students from Years 7 to 12 to bring in a device that suits their own educational requirements.
Students who bring a device to school are responsible for that device. Crestwood High School will not take any responsibility if a device is damaged, lost or stolen. Smart phones will not be connected to the network.
Device specification requirements
Wireless connectivity
Dual band, 802.11ac wireless connectivity. (This may be marketed as WiFi-5)
(The device must be able to connect to a 5GHz network)
Software
DET provided copy of MS Office must be installed by the end of Week 2 Term 1.
Anti-Virus software
RAM
8GB RAM.
Processor
A Quad core x 64 processor will be required for some DET provided Adobe packages and specialised subjects in later years.
Physical Specifications
10” minimum screen size.
A sturdy keyboard with keys that physically move when depressed is recommended. (This type of keyboard allows for faster typing. It also prolongs the life of the device.)
Battery Life
Getting the most out of your battery life
A device with a battery life capable of lasting a minimum of 7 hours from full charge.
It is the students’ responsibility to ensure they bring the device to school fully charged. Student will also be responsible for using the device in a manner that allows it to retain charge for the whole day.
Provisions for charging of the devices at school is not permitted.
Data Back-up
Students will be responsible for the backing up of all data to a separate device; for example, a USB or DET provided cloud storage.
Maintenance
Students and parents are responsible for the maintenance, repair and upkeep of the device.
In accordance to Crestwood High School’s Assessment Policy, a damaged device is not accepted as a reason for the late or non-submission of work.
School staff will assist with connecting student devices to the DET wireless network.
A guide on how to download, install and activate the free DET enterprise software will be available on the schools website. Software will be available to new Year 7 students from the end of Week 1.
Department of Education licensed software packages
The Department of Education has purchased licences for several software products for students to use at school. As part of these licences, Department of Education (DoE) students are able to download a copy of several software packages for personal use, on one computer.
