Bring Your Own Device
All students are required to bring a working device to school on all days. To make this easier, we work in partnership with Hewlett Packard (HP) to provide you with a simple and easy way to buy an appropriate bring your own device (BYOD) product for your child's education.
Please go directly to the Crestwood High School page on the HP shopping website.
About the bring your own device program
The bring your own device (BYOD) program allows students from Years 7 to 12 to bring in a device that suits their own educational requirements. Students who bring a device to school are responsible for that device. Crestwood High School will not take any responsibility if a device is damaged, lost or stolen. Smart phones will not be connected to the network.
Considerations when purchasing a device
Students and parents must ensure the operating system and all installed software is legal, licenced and activated.
We strongly advise against purchasing either a Chromebook or an iPad. It is not possible to install software that we require students to use, on these devices.
Students with physical disabilities should contact the school for specific advice.
All students work must be submitted in MS Office, Google Doc or PDF format.
BYO Device Requirements
- Windows 11 or MacOS-X
- 13" Display
- US-English Keyboard
- 8 Gb Memory
- 256Gb Storage.
- Dual Band WIFI
- 7 hour battery life
- DET provides an Enterprise License for Office365 & OneDrive for all Year 7s from Week 1 of Term 1.
- AV Software - Windows Defender (on Windows) and X-Protect (on Macs) are considered adequate AV Protection.
- Students will be required to install certain software on their BYODs. This is one of several reasons why we strongly advise against the purchase of Chromebooks and iPads.
- Parental Control Software does not work behind the DET's Firewall, rendering the device unusable at school. Please refrain from installing Parental Control Software.
- VPNs are actively blocked. Any student found attempting to use a VPN while at school will be subject to disciplinary action.
- It is the students' responsibility to ensure that all school-work is backed up on a regular basis to either the cloud (OneDrive or Google Drive), or to external media
- While the School's TSO can provide some assistance diagnosing hardware issues, it is the owners responsibility to keep the device in good repair.
- Additional information is detailed in the School's BYOD Agreement that you signed at the beginning of Year 7
